For Teachers

The Teachers Film Workshop is an evolution of the Young Filmmakers Workshop. The Teachers Film Workshop offers filmmaking instruction to teachers. Providing them with the knowledge and skills to guide students interested in using filmmaking for school projects that support the Ontario curriculum. For example after one of our classroom workshops students created a historical music video on the Confederation of Canada while other students acted out the roles of our founding fathers to create a documentary.

How students can benefit

  • Film production is most often a collaborative effort of more than one person. It teaches all participants communication skills, organizational skills, presentation skills, leadership and teamwork.
  • Enhances success for students and learners because it encourages young people to produce their own films.
  • Providing a voice for independent young filmmakers encourages them to engage and interact within their communities to produce their films.
  • creates conditions for student achievement • teaches them how to appreciate films

Our hands on teachers workshop covers the following topics

  • Proper camera operating techniques
  • How to develop story ideas that can be executed with the resources at hand
  • Story boarding how to create functional story boards
  • Importing footage to computers
  • Editing using free available software
  • Adding music and voice over
  • How filmmaking and animation can be used for classroom and individual projects.
