About Us

Young people love the creativity of creating their own films and animation. Today, the availability of affordable, high-quality home digital cameras and video equipment make the creative possibilities so much richer. What young filmmakers suffer from is the lack of professional training and guidance. That’s why, in 2001, Craig Mullins founded the Young Filmmakers Workshop.

Craig is a Toronto based Director of Photography with 23 years of experience in the film industry. He is a long standing member of IATSE local 667 and the Canadian Society of Cinematographers. Craig has taught cinematography at Humber College as well as a variety of industry workshops.

Classroom Workshop

Our Classroom Workshop is an evolution of the Young Filmmakers Workshop. The Classroom Workshops offer filmmaking and animating instruction to students and teachers; providing them with the knowledge and skills to guide students interested in using filmmaking or animating for school projects that support the Ontario curriculum. For example, after one of our classroom workshops students created a historical music video on the Confederation of Canada. Other students acted out the roles of our founding fathers to create a documentary.

Mission statement

Our mission is to provide professional training and to encourage young filmmakers and animators to continue to produce films and through the acts of film production to hone their creative skills.

  • Counselors are college/university film students with a passion for filmmaking
  • The film workshop has grown to include filmmaking, animation and photography.
  • We were approached by the Ontario arts council to run workshops in Ontario schools. So we have developed workshops for both the elementary and secondary schools. That can run anywhere from ½ day to several weeks.
  • The workshop has produced hundreds of student films in a both rual and urban centers
