| In recent years technical advances, affordable high quality home digital cameras, and a growing interest in film, animation and digital photography as a medium has increased the interest and made it easier for young people to be more creative. However this interest suffers from the lack of professional training and guidance. Therefore, in 2001 Craig Mullins founded the Young Filmmakers Workshop. Craig is a Toronto based Director of Photography with 25 years of experience in the film industry. He is a long standing member of IATSE local 667 and the Canadian Society of Cinematographers. Craig has taught cinematography at Humber College as well as a variety of industry workshops.
We offer the following workshops. (weekly during July, August and March Break) Filmmaking Workshop (for kids 11-15) Beginner Workshop. This one-week workshop introduces youth to the basic fundamentals of filmmaking. From script to screen, students working as a group will learn (hands on how) to develop a story, create storyboards, film and edit their work. Intermediate Workshop. Students working as a group will learn further filmmaking techniques in the areas of script writing, directing, camera operating and editing. Animation Workshop (for kids 11-15) Beginner workshop. | Students are split into groups of 6-8. Each group has their own counsellor working with them through the week.
Young Filmmaking Workshop teaches the basics of filmmaking from story idea to finished film. Students are taught how to brainstorm story ideas and create a story time line. Using the story timeline each group then creates a storyboard. From there the students create a viable shooting schedule, pick locations, actors, wardrobe and props. Then under the supervision of the councillor they shoot their story. The footage is then imported into the computer and students are taught how to assemble and edit their story. (students will edit in pairs). At the end of the summer each student will receive a copy of their finished film.
At the end of the summer each student will receive a copy of their finished film.
At the end of the workshop each student will get to keep a copy of their work. |
