Summer Filmmaking Workshops

This is camp with a digital edge. Young Filmmakers Workshops let you create your own films and animations with a real film pro, Craig Mullins. Craig is the genius behind Young Filmmakers. He’s the real deal – a Director of Photography with over 25 years of experience in film and animation. Craig and his team of instructors and counselors are obsessed with giving kids the know-how and tools to pursue their own movie-making.

The groups are small – no more than 8 kids – so everyone gets plenty of hands-on time. (Some of our early campers have already gone on to take filmmaking in university.) Once you learn the basics of planning, shooting and production, it’s time to bring your story to life.

The Young Filmmakers Workshops have opportunities for every kid (9 years and up) from beginner, to intermediate and advanced. You can join us at several Toronto locations including the Beaches.

Young Filmmakers Workshop

Beginner workshop. This one-week workshop introduces youth to the basic fundamentals of filmmaking. From script to screen, students working as a group will learn (hands on) how to develop a story, create storyboards, film and edit their work.

Intermediate workshop. This intensive two week workshop is geared towards youth with a strong interest in enhancing their filmmaking skills. Students working as a group will learn further filmmaking techniques in the areas of script writing, directing, cinematography and editing.

Young Animators Workshop

Beginner workshop. This one-week workshop introduces youth to the basic fundamentals of animating.  The students actively participate in developing a story, creating the look of the characters, animating them on paper and editing their work.

Young Photography Workshop

This one-week workshop introduces youth to the fundamentals of photography. The students get hands-on technical experience choosing appropriate lenses, exploring  composition, exposure, and lighting. Each workshop will be comprised of exercises and  photo shoots. All students will have the use of a digital 35mm camera while at the workshop.

Workshops in the classroom

For grades 4-12

We offer professional training in filmmaking and animating in the classroom from story idea to finished film. Students gain hands-on knowledge of planning, filming and editing their own video productions under the supervision of professional filmmakers. The filmmaking and animating workshops can be run jointly or independent of each other. We have the flexibility to hold workshops daily, weekly (for the full day or the half-day)
